So why do we need to know more about the menopause?

Well, it effects 50% of the population and the rest second hand. Each woman will have a unique experience that will last for a different amount of time. It can start as early as twenty and the symptoms can vary. 1 in 4 women consider leaving work due to the menopause. Education is key for both the employee and the employer.

First let us clarify the stages

Perimenopause – This is the stage leading up menopause and can last for 4-8 years.

Menopause – this means the natural cessation of periods, often known as ‘the change.’ A woman achieves menopause when she has not had periods for twelve consecutive months. The following day is classed as the menopause.

Post menopause – this is the time after the menopause and the last for the rest of your life.
