Caring for yourself or a loved one can be very positive and rewarding but at times can bring a number of emotional and practical challenges.

How we can support you as a carer

Carers Wellbeing sessions

Many carers find themselves caring for a family member or friend suddenly, perhaps overnight and others may come into their caring journey more gradually as the health and wellbeing needs of the person they care for increase over time.

As a service we deliver and support carers through our group sessions, exploring some of the challenges and difficult emotions carers may experience.

Carers and the session facilitators discuss and share different ways to manage challenges, stress levels and ideas and techniques carers can use to improve and support their own physical and emotional wellbeing whilst caring for someone.

The sessions are run throughout different localities in Kirklees, creating a safe environment for carers to be able to discuss, share and learn. The groups can range from 5-12 carers and can last between 2 and 2.5 hours.

Individual support that carers may need can also be provided through the Wellness Service, Carers Trust and our partners Carers Count.

Self-referrals are accepted to access this support.

What sessions are available?

Building Resilience

A reflective and motivational session exploring a number of topics to help carers build on their existing strengths and knowledge to be able to look after their own emotional and physical wellbeing and better manage their caring role.

Topics explored include acceptance, managing difficult emotions such as guilt, fear and resentment. We also look at how we can build on our personal resilience through positive self-talk, managing change, challenges and worries and re-connecting with ourselves as individuals in our own right.

Caring for Someone with Memory Deterioration

In this session we explore common symptoms, behaviours and feelings the person you care for may be experiencing.

The session involves discussion, sharing experiences, ideas and strategies. It also explores the challenges and emotions carers in this situation may experience and ways to manage and overcome them.

Individual support 

We can also support you as a carer on a 1-2-1 basis to manage your emotional, physical and/or your social wellbeing and guide you through behaviour change using a number of different approaches including health coaching.

How We Can Support Your Wellbeing

If you want to feel happier, healthier, worry less and sleep more, then these sessions are for you

The My Wellbeing Course, run by our Health Coaches, is designed to provide wellness clients with the tools they need to be able to manage their thoughts, feelings and emotions to have a positive impact on their everyday lives. This 6-week course of 1 hour sessions, provides a mixture of practical work, group discussions, activities, information and resources to equip you with the tools you need to manage your health and wellbeing.

The course, is an additional resource to your 1-2-1 coaching experience, offering you an additional blanket of knowledge and support. Each session tackles a different topic so everyone can leave with something that suits them.
