What does your BMI mean?
The body mass index (BMI) is a measure that uses your height (in m2) and weight (in kg) to work out if your weight is healthy…therefore it’s measured in kg/m2 . The result from the BMI calculation can be placed in the categories below:
Underweight | Below 18.5 |
Healthy Weight | 18.5 – 24.9 |
Overweight | 25 – 29.9 |
Obese | 30 – 39.9 |
The BMI ranges shown here do not apply to pregnant women, or for use in some medical conditions or with children. These BMI values may also be inappropriate for athletes because of their muscle mass and for some ethnic groups.
